I had already decided that I would come for the December food distribution in order to write about the families for our church newsletter.

I came before 3 p.m. and saw Peter Sii and Hui Ming’s son, Ho Rui. He did not know what he was supposed to do. So I said, “Let’s go with Richard.” Richard Law is in charge of Social Concern in Faith Methodist Church (FMC). We visited three families and brought rice, sugar and other foodstuff. FMC does this on the first Sunday of every month, and over the years FMC has also offered other forms of help to meet their needs.

In the first family, Ho Rui talked to the Form One boy whose parents had passed away in the last two years, leaving him an orphan at 13. Ho Rui is in Form Two. He advised his junior to spend less time on the phone and to read more to prepare for PT3. In the second family, Richard asked Ho Rui to pray for the family. And he did! In the third family, Ho Rui tried to converse with another Form One boy in BM.

When I went home, I told my husband what happened during the food distribution. He said, “I don’t think Rev Pau meant for children to join the Food Distribution when he made the call.” Maybe not. But God can use children. God can use anyone as long as His people are willing.

The incident reminds me of the widow who put two very small copper coins into the temple treasury and Jesus commended her for it. The two copper coins were more than enough for God, just like another boy’s five small barley loaves and two small fishes. Jesus used it to feed five thousand (John 6: 1-14).

Mark 12: 41-44
The Widow’s Offering
41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.

42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

Note: My 13-year old son asked me to use this title for my sharing as mine were all not trendy.
