SEP 10, MIRI – In conjunction with the 80th birthday celebration for Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT) Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, the Sarawak Government held a 3-day state-level celebration of events including a vibrant rally and parade of 80 contingents, thanksgiving prayers, high tea and exhibition, and a people’s concert at the Miri City Fan.
This morning at the Miri Outdoor Stadium, the fascinating parade consisting of uniformed bodies, government departments and agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other bodies commenced around 8:00 with the arrival of TYT and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib.
Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and wife Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu were also present.
Scintillating performances from the respective contingents in various uniform and colorful ethnic costumes amazed the crowd of thousands. It was a wonderful event showcasing Sarawak’s rich and harmonious cultures from her people.
The ceremony ended at 11:00 am with the departure of TYT and distinguished guests.
For the second time since 2012 in Miri, the Boys’ Brigade in Malaysia (BB) was honored to participate in the Kontingen Generasi Harapan Bangsa marching competition. Representing the BB, the Sarawak Northern Region sent a contingent of 37 members from six Miri-based companies.
Led by Commander Lt. Raymond Tie of 4th Miri, the BB contingent performed brilliantly during the parade to emerge “Johan Kategori Kontingen Generasi Harapan Bangsa” (Champion, Youth category) with a prize award of RM3,000.
“It was an honor and indeed true blessings from God! We will continue to nurture our youth based on Christian values to lead and serve,” said Lt. Tie.
BB Northern Region President and 1st Limbang Capt. Lawrence Wong was visibly elated with the performance. “The Officers and Members have toiled hard during the five days of tireless rehearsal and in the end, they were able to deliver their best performance; I’m so proud of them! All praise and glory to God!” Quoting from Hebrews 6:19, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure,” he praised God for The Boys’ Brigade.
