EDUCATiON: My Experience in MPI

with No Comments

I was born and grew up in Sichuan, China. I have a Christian mother who has a great impact on my life. Thanks to my mother who knew Jesus when I was 2 years old, from that time Jesus entered my life and walked with me throughout my whole life. I can barely express in words how amazing this journey walking with God is.

When I was in high school, it was hard for me to get into a famous university since I was not excellent in my studies. I started to plan to get into a famous university anyhow. At that time, I planned to learn art and that I could have a promising future. In my perspective, it was the best plan for me. Nevertheless, my parents did not support me due to several reasons. I was so frustrated, I could not understand why until 2013, God answered my question — He had the best plan for my future.

In 2013, after graduating from high school I got the chance to study in Malaysia with a full scholarship, which was totally the grace of God for me. I never thought I could study abroad, and I was so excited and grateful. Three and half years in Sibu had a great impact on my life. I took a diploma in Early Childhood Education at Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) and an elective course at Methodist Theological School (MTS) nearby MPI.

The experience in MPI and the equipping in MTS were the soil, water, andsunlight for my life. “Truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” (John 12:24) “No death, no life” — is the important first lesson I learnt in Malaysia.

However, the road to follow Jesus is narrow, tough, and bumpy. “Then Jesus said to the disciples: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Matthew16:24) I understand “may I never boast except in the cross of our lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” (Galatians 6:14). All in all, the journey in Malaysia was fruitful.

At the same time, I faced a lot of struggles as well. In the very beginning, English was a big barrier for me. I remember after my first class, I cried because I could not catch a single word the teacher had taught. Thanks to those struggles and difficulties, I was drawn near to my Lord. I knew I could only rely on Jesus. I experienced the richness in Jesus Christ when I relied on Him.

When I knew my diploma couldn’t be recognized in China, I worried about my future and tried again to plan. I never forgot the purpose for which I went to Malaysia — to serve my Lord in my career. I recognized myself as a missionary and it is the most important thing I really want to do. However, when I encountered this situation, I was confused. I could not even get a job easily in China, how could I serve my Lord in my workplace? I asked God why brought me to MPI.

In 2017, God answered my question by showing me His grace, mercy and love. At the end of April, I was given the chance to learn at Lancaster Bible College (LBC) in USA. How amazing! Again, I never thought I could study in USA with a full scholarship. Although the application process was tough, Jesus guided me all the way. Finally, here I am in LBC where I take 2 majors (Early childhood Education and Biblical Study).

I am prepared to be a missionary in the future. I know God has a plan for me, thus I decided to dedicate the rest of my life to God’s kingdom without reserve, regrets, or retreat. Along the way, from Sichuan to Sibu, from Sibu to Lancaster, God taught me two important lessons. Firstly, I had been looking for the best plan for myself, but God told me only HE has and knows the best plan for me! Secondly, God holds the present and future for me and what God gives me is more than I could ask or think of. Just trust Him wholeheartedly!

“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived, the things God has prepared for those who love Him.” – want to hold this promise tightly and follow Jesus without turning back.

Amazing God is not just to talk about, we can experience Him. Put your faith in Him, and you will know and experience what an amazing God we have!
