NEWSlink: From “Walking to” to “Walking with”

Two and a half years ago, I had my right knee replacement operation and after that I could walk better. Recently I had a neck spinal cord operation; after which I could walk even better. I told myself, I wanted “to walk”, to play golf again which I planned as my next step. Somehow, this desire was not fulfilled. Instead of “walking to” play golf, I ended up “walking with Jesus”.

What happened was that when the church leaders were invited by our President Tie to practice full Esther Fasting & Prayer for 3 days in early December, I took up the challenge. Though mine was not a perfect fast (I needed some sugared fluid, beyond just plain water, on the second night), I still completed the 3-day full fast. I realized that God gave me better health, not to walk faster to play golf but to walk with Him!

I have learnt these important lessons for better walk with Him:
i) I learned to rely on God for strength to ward off temptations and tough encounters.
ii) I kept my focus on Jesus. I drew closer to Jesus. I started to understand more, what intimate fellowship with God was about.
iii) I became more aware of my sins and pride. I needed Jesus to forgive me. He reminded me He is my Saviour & Lord.

I started to understand deeper the real meaning of “Walking with God”. It is more than a relationship; it is about discipleship, following Christ and obedience. It is not what I desire for myself but what God intends for me to do now that I can walk better. It is even more important to walk with God faithfully like Enoch did.

Brothers & sisters, we pray hard that the coming year 2020 will see all of
us renewing our “walk with Jesus faithfully” and to sustain this relationship (Enoch walked with God 300 years). Walking with Jesus faithfully will help us walk further together as a united Church, LCEC, committees, small groups or fellowships. Walking with our Lord faithfully may help us to be bolder, more obedient, humble, fully relying on the strength of our Lord to explore into unchartered areas like starting serious family discipleship and using new devotion material (like Daily Living Water), commit together to help grow the newly formed English District and to start or continue other ministries that are “pleasing to our God, “like Enoch who pleased God”. All for the glory of God.
