Lawas Care Centre was inspired by a brother-in-Christ, after having gone to Pa’adang on a short term mission. He saw the needs of the Penan children living in the remote jungles to have consistent education under proper care. He bought a piece of land to cater for their needs by providing a lodging place while these children attend school away from home. From there, it progressed into the inception of the Lawas Care Centre in 2013.
The Care Centre is under Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference, BEM and Life Music Christian society club, who jointly monitor the Centre. The main purpose is to help these indigenous children to be nurtured and cared for with Christian values.
The Centre provides these children with food, lodging and tutoring, giving them a chance to learn independence, self-discipline and fervent Christian living since primary school. At the moment, there are fourteen children with one principal, one student supervisor, one local missionary and a cook.
We need vehicles in good condition for sending the children to school and picking them up. The distance between the Centre and the schools takes around 15 to 20 minutes to cover. At present, the old second-hand van is too exhausted to ferry the children, often causing a lot of problems. Maintenance is also very costly. The frequent break-downs make transportation
of children to school very inconvenient.
Thus, the Centre has an urgent need to buy a new van for this purpose. The van is around RM120,000. We pray that brothers and sisters will keenly support us in this aspect.
Interested churches or individuals, please contact Rev Law Hui Seng (0128770303, email: lawhuiseng@yahoo.com), Director of the Board of Evangelism of SCAC. Your support is deeply appreciated and an encouragement to the Centre and the children.
