With much thanksgiving and praise to GOD, I am humbled to have been elected the Bishop of the Methodist Church in Malaysia (MCM). It is my sincere hope that you will pray for me.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, my prayer is that we will pray like never before to see a reform and a revival take place in our Methodist Church. My prayer is that we will emphasise further our ministries on discipleship, missions, relief work, advocacy, education for all, from the perspective of early Methodism. My prayer is that we will build our individual lives as well as our family lives, and the life of the MCM as a whole with Methodist concerns that are derived from the Scripture, which are in essence, GOD’s concerns. And in true Wesleyan spirit, let us not only participate in nation building but be godly leaders in nation building, to the end that Christ our Lord will be honoured and revered in our nation and the presence of our church will remain relevant in our communities.

Sisters and brothers, we cannot achieve these works by ourselves; neither by our own might, nor by our human power, but only by our total dependence on the Spirit of the Lord GOD Almighty (Zechariah 4:6).

I take office knowing that many have lost their positions and jobs. Many have become poorer. We live in challenging times in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic that has affected every area of life. We in the Methodist Church in Malaysia must not forget all who are in need and seriously put in efforts to stand in solidarity with those who have been affected whether they are Malaysians or non-Malaysians, whether in the country or outside the country as the Scripture calls us to saying “whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord and he will reward them for what they have done” (Proverbs 19:17).

As much as we are faced with many challenges at this time, I believe that by “standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, and not frightened in anything by our opponents” (Philippians 1:27-28), we will experience the blessings our Lord will grant to us.

People of God, no one can reach anywhere without the help and support of others. And when we have reached certain distances in life we must not forget where we have come from and the people who journeyed with us. So from the depth of my heart I wish to thank everyone who journeyed with me and prayed for me.

Although we live in uncertain times, we the people called Methodists must look forward with great expectation to all that God is going to do in and through us because, as in the words of John Wesley, “The best of all is GOD is with us”
