“Last election, I voted for so-and-so, but after he was elected, he disappeared. Now he has appeared again asking for votes. How can I vote for him this time?” A friend complained.

Another said with a righteous air, “It’s a waste if you don’t take the money. If the candidate gives me money to buy my vote, I’ll take it, but as for my vote, I’ll decide on my own.”

Yet another said, “The way I vote, I’ll see who is giving out money. Whoever it is, I won’t vote for him. I hate bribes, we need a clean election!”

As the GE 14 nears, have you decided on your sacred vote? How do we decide whether our vote is sacred?

Sacred Vote?
The sacred vote is a clean vote. It is not influenced by sin. If your vote is bought or bribed, your vote is a dirty vote, it is an unclean vote.

The sacred vote is also a classified vote. It is not influenced by others, it is solely your own decision. Others do not need to know whom you vote for, so it is a classified vote.

The sacred vote is a crucial vote. It is held accountable to God, because the elected can be called God’s servant (Romans 13:4-7). Your vote is crucial, but the ultimate authority belongs to God, because he “changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others” (Dan 2:21), God “is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes”(Dan 4:25b).

Vote for whom?
So whom is your sacred vote for? Is it for the candidate? Or for the party? Or for the coalition? You have to make your own wise decision in front of God, because each person is held accountable to God.

What about me? I have to pray and ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance, and to follow the words of the Bible, and vote for the candidate who “acts justly, loves mercy, and walks humbly with God”! As the Bible says, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)

Brothers and sisters, in the upcoming election, please use your sacred vote for the one who acts justly, loves mercy, and walks humbly with God.
