Feb 3, Miri – Learning in classrooms has its merits and limitations. To equip our young people to become committed and responsible citizens, it is imperative to bring them to learn outside the classroom too.

As such, The Boys’ Brigade in Malaysia Sarawak Northern Region, organized a Rakan Muda briefing for their Members at Mei Ann Methodist Church. The presenter, Mr Rynnille Elsther Peter, is from Pejabat Belia dan Sukan, Bahagian Miri.

The Rakan Muda Award, first introduced in the United Kingdom in 1956 as The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, is recognized by the Malaysian government. It is available to all 14-24 year olds and is the world’s leading youth achievement award.

According the website www.intaward.org, this prestigious Award, since its launch over 60 years ago, has inspired millions of young people to transform their lives through non-formal educational activities.

To qualify for the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards, every participant needs to be in active involvement of voluntary and challenging activities for six consecutive months that encourage Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey.

An active Q and A followed after the briefing. In closing, a gift of appreciation was presented by Capt. Patrick Tiong of 2nd Miri Coy to Mr Rynnille.
