IN ushering in the New Year 2018, Lawas Care Centre (LCC), home to 15 Penan children mostly from Pa’ Adang is launching an Adoption Plan. The plan aims to connect the ministry with our churches in a more personal way so that churches can be a part of the growing journey of these Penan children. Secondly, churches are invited to share the financial burden of the “Ministry to Sarawak Indigenous People” (MSIP, under Board of Evangelism, SCAC) which is responsible for the running cost of LCC. The average monthly expenses are RM7,500.

LCC started its operation in January 2014 from scratch. The journey has not been easy since it is essentially a cross-cultural ministry; even the Penan children have been experiencing tremendous cultural shock. With God’s grace LCC managed to pull through the challenges over the years. The Penan parents are giving positive recognition toward the objectives of LCC and the Penan children are making progress as well. In academic terms, we have seen one particular student Liliani obtaining encouraging results in SPM and she is now looking toward to her tertiary education.

We praise God for bringing in two personnel to operate the Centre, Wong Teck Soon the Principal and Henry Kong Kim Hing, the Student Supervisor. Wong reported for duty in September 2017 while Henry Kong started in December 2017. At present a cook is urgently needed; let’s pray for God’s provision.

There are currently 15 Penan students with 8 secondary students and 7 primary students at LCC. The Adoption Plan goes as follows:
– RM300 monthly for a primary student
– RM350 monthly for a secondary student

Interested churches please contact Ms Alicia Toh, the administrative assistant of Board of Evangelism at 084-336096 for procedure details. Photos and brief details of the respective child shall be provided for the adopting churches so that prayer support can be directed and correspondence can be exchanged.

We praise God that two churches have shown their support by each adopting one child.
