i managed to watch “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” yesterday, finally.

In the movie, the bad guy, Kylo Ren, was torn: he knew the “light” (good side) was the right thing to do, but the luring from the darkside was too attractive for him to ignore, so he succumbed to it. In my daily life, the war between the “light” and the “darkness” is real. Do good, yes, it is required of us—but oftentimes, the exciting dark side entices us. The Bible, however, warns us the consequence of such is “death” (cf Romans 6:23). “Good” will never be the fruit of the evil.

The Good News is, “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5).

“Light” refers to goodness, holiness, and purity. Because He is light, He wants to shine His light into our darkness (cf 2 Cor. 4:4-6). He wants to cast away the darkness in us, so that we, His children, bear His likeness (1 John 1:6-7). If you are feeling defeated, cling on to this promise that His light will cast away all evil in us, through the blood His Son shed for us on the Cross.
