TO be able to pen my testimony today is definitely a miracle that testifies the goodness of God to me.

Recalling 35 years ago when I was a matriculation student in Adelaide, Australia, my brush with death still sends chills down my spine. I was not a Christian then.

It was a cool autumn afternoon. After school I was back at my apartment (2nd floor) alone as my other two housemates were having extra class. With only a key to the main door, I didn’t lock it, thinking that that would help them enter the house if I happened to fall asleep. I did not think of safety first.

Actually I did not realize that they could just knock at the window of my room alongside walking corridor. Then I went for a nap.

I couldn’t remember how long I had been sleeping but definitely I was very sound asleep. Then suddenly sensing that there was something beside me, I opened my eyes. To my bewilderment there was a middle aged lady sitting on my bed next to me. Surprised at her presence, I didn’t scream or make any fuss of her presence in the room. I sat up immediately, we had a conversation for a short while before she signalled her intention to leave. ourteously I escorted her out of the apartment and said goodbye.

Very shortly afterwards I heard some commotion down at the carpark. As I walked out of the apartment leaning over the corridor handrail to find out what the commotion was all about, I was stunned to find the middle aged woman who had been in my room with me was being restrained by medical personnel from a (mental) institution and a knife (probably 10-12” long) was recovered from her body.

I was at a total loss when I saw that knife. As I walked back to my room, I saw a small patch of hair lying on the floor – that’s my hair!!!

In my confused state, I guessed that if she had decided to pierce the knife through my throat or heart while I was still sound asleep, I would be dead then.

Then, I said it was luck that saved my life. Just luck!!

Now, being a Christian, I cannot but be amazed at God’s mighty hand in preserving my life.

God shows kindness to all even while we are yet sinners. I thank God for preserving my life; for if my life should end then, I shall spend my eternity in unquenchable fire of hell. But today I stand affirmed of my destiny “That everyone who believes may have eternal life in Him.” (John 3:15)
