I was visiting a dear, sweet English lady friend not too long ago. She poured tea graciously with her painful arthritic hands. Two hands to hold the small pot, to show how careful she was.

Then she got the maid to take out the beautiful butter cookies from the still sealed tin and and reminded her to place them neatly on the plate, lined with a beautiful doily. She had an eye for small gracious things in her life.

When her maid got up, she said, ”Thank you.” And then she reminded us how  grateful she was to have a maid to help her in the last five years, since she was diagnosed with arthritis.

“My friends in the UK cannot believe that I have house help 24/7 in Sarawak. Dahlia is from the kampong here and she stays with me.”

Then she offered me the biscuits and I took one, like any well brought up Chinese girl would do. She said gently,

“Come on, one is not enough. Take more!!” She insisted and I knew her well enough to know that she really meant it. A kind and generous friend.

As the sun peeked through her tree lined patio, I reflected upon her words. Isn’t our God just like her?

His love for us is free and we can take not just one dose of His great love but more!! He gave us so much love and His only Begotten Son

This is how we should give out our love. “One is not enough…Take more!!”
